Artful Truth

The Artful Truth curriculum enables the instructor to assume the role of facilitator who leads a process of student discovery. Each component has been designed with the user in mind. The materials are visually engaging, conceptually stimulating, and organized for easy use by educator and student.

Each of the components of the curriculum has been divided into separate PDF files in order to make their downloading easier. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or above to view these documents. The Blast from the Future Student Workbook is a twenty-four-page workbook that presents visual literacy concepts and activities sequentially, building on previously gained knowledge. It contains twelve lessons that introduce the basic tools of visual communication (signs, symbols, logos, and type design) and addresses issues such as media messages, target audiences, product packaging, tobacco advertising, health facts, and graphic designs that convey numerical information.

The Instructor Manual Introduction provides a complete introduction to the Artful Truth curriculum, its creators, and why it focuses on tobacco.

A step-by-step Lesson Plan has been designed to accompany each of the twelve lessons in the Student Workbook.

The Appendix provides additional educator information, including recommendations for using the curriculum in the classroom, Internet and cross-curricular connections, how the Artful Truth curriculum address multiple intelligences, graphic organizers used in the curriculum, and a Blast Glossary of relevant words.

Supplemental Worksheet & Assessment Booklet

The Supplemental Worksheet and Assessment Booklet, which provides three types of black-line masters, has been divided into separate download files below: Lesson Worksheets, FCAT Assessments, and Writing Prompts.

Lesson Worksheets: This file contains a black-line master for each lesson-specific worksheet, which is designed to be duplicated and used by students as they progress through the Student Workbook.

FCAT Assessments: These black-line masters provide assessments in reading, math, and art and design concepts to help educators prepare their students for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). The formats featured in this resource reflect the State of Florida Sunshine State Standards, but the content is based on the lessons in the Artful Truth curriculum.

Writing Prompts: These Writing Prompts provide both narrative and expository writing topics, giving contextual practice for the FCAT Writing Test. The formats featured in this resource reflect the State of Florida Sunshine State Standards, but the content is based on the lessons in the Artful Truth curriculum.
