WOLFSONIAN PUBLISHES EXHIBITION CATALOGUES

In the past year, The Wolfsonian published two exhibition catalogs, Tokyo: The Imperial Capital and Weapons of Mass Dissemination: The Propaganda of War. Both are available for purchase from the museum shop.

Tokyo: The Imperial Capital features the woodblock prints of Koizumi Kishio (1893-1945). The prints chronicle the rebuilding of Tokyo that occurred from 1928 to 1940, following a devastating 1923 earthquake and subsequent fire. The 102-page catalog includes essays by Marianne Lamonaca, assistant director for exhibitions and curatorial affairs; James T. Ulak, co-curator of the exhibition and deputy director of the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution; and Frederic A. Sharf, a scholar and collector who was research coordinator for the exhibition.

Weapons of Mass Dissemination: The Propaganda of War considers the role that visual propaganda has played in modern warfare. The 96-page catalog contains essays by Marianne Lamonaca, assistant director for exhibitions and curatorial affairs and by Sarah Schleuning, assistant curator. A book signing event with the authors is scheduled for October 12 at 6 p.m. at Books and Books in Coral Gables.
