Designing Modernity: The Arts of Reform and Persuasion, 1885-1945
(Thames & Hudson, 1995; 352 pages, hardcover $60, paperback $35) was edited by Wendy Kaplan and produced in conjunction with The Wolfsonian's inaugural exhibition. The book includes a collection of essays that examines design at the height of the industrial age in the context of social, technological, and aesthetic issues, as well as a complete illustrated checklist of every object in the exhibition. In 1996 Designing Modernity was awarded the prestigious George Wittenborn Memorial Award by the Art Libraries Association of North America.
