The Wolfsonian-FIU has developed a series of workshops and programs designed
specifically for FIU faculty, staff, and students. These programs enhance
understanding of the various teaching and research opportunities offered
to these audiences through the museum's diverse collection.
In July 1997 The Wolfsonian became a division of Florida International
University. Since that time The Wolfsonian has developed strong ties with
individual faculty members, several academic departments, and key members
of the university's administrative staff. To advance its relationship
with other members of the university community, The Wolfsonian-FIU in
fall 1999 formed the Academic Advisory Council, including faculty, students,
and administrators, to ensure that Wolfsonian collections and programmatic
initiatives are developed for maximal benefit to the university community;
to broaden research and teaching opportunities for FIU faculty and students;
to ensure that FIU faculty, students, and staff have a voice in and feel
a part of Wolfsonian programming initiatives, and to identify contacts
in each division who will disseminate information about the museum, thereby
developing greater interest in collections-based teaching, research, exhibitions,
and programs.
The council's full membership convenes twice per academic year; its executive
committee meets approximately four times each year.
