Turnstile, c. 1932 Designed by John Vassos (American, 1898-1985) Manufactured by Perey Company, New York TD1989.50.1 To stimulate sales during the Great Depression, manufacturers and designers joined forces to persuade the consumer to buy new products despite economic hardship. John Vassoss Perey turnstile redesign, for example, actually lowered the cost of manufacture while it increased sales by 25 percent.
